idea: Global Data API

Here's something I'd really like to see:

You know how you can save key and value data for each player with the Data API? From what I understand, each player can only access data that has been saved for them specifically - you can't get data from another player. But I would find it really useful if you could access global data not attached to any player.

Then, for example, I could retrieve a global value with the key "totalPlays", and increment it and store the new value back to the server whenever the play button is clicked. That example is kind of trivial but there are lots of really cool things I could do with a feature like that.

In particular, this:

Yea its a cool thing, and we have discussed doing it several times, but its a massively complex thing to do for popular games, and the security will have to be in top as well.

Still we are in-fact looking into it.

Thanks for your reply.

Hmmm, I didn't realize it was so complex. Well, I'm glad to hear you're looking into it, and here's to hoping you'll be able to provide this feature sometime in the near future! Do you have any estimates on how long something like that would take to implement securely?

There is no estimate ATM, and to be honest, if its a good idea we are generally looking into it.

I know it sounds cheesy, but we really try to make you guys happy ;)
