Nonoba Forums / Nonoba / Underaged Nonobians Must Leave

Slinden said

http://www.nonoba.com/about/termsofservice

In the Terms of Service it says that:

Basic Terms of Use
Users of the Website must be at least 13 years or older.

This is a problem...

How could we get rid of all the underaged people, this would be hard because:
1. they could fake their age
2. we cant force them to leave cause even if they get banned they can make new users
3. there are to many of them!

Posted 3 months ago
Claytontheman said

And most of the users on here are about 9-12. (Like Me Im 11) So how about we convince nonoba to make it age 10+ :D

Just because you know about sex, doesn't immediately make you mature. In fact,in my opinion,it makes you one of the most immature.I mean, retarded teenagers talk about that type of thing! And even more retarded adults, unless it is to do with a crime that is somehow linked to you-know-what and the court is arguing over it.

Why dont the creater of nonoba.com just make a program for kids that will block their information, from chatting, and other things that kids cant do. Well mabe the age should be sent to a nonoba worker, then the worker turns on a special system to proctet the child from showing his/her information, bad words, and cybering. The kid has access to games and mabe multiplayer games IF you cant chat IN the game.

actually they do. they may seem to not listen, and even be actively working against the lessons they're learning, but other than the rebellion against the dictatorial style of parenting, there is an impressive amount of knowledge communicated through elders of the same peer group, who tend to be parents and teachers.

it's partly passive and partly active learning.

If you meant "Who read the Terms of Service?" then the answer is, people who don't like nasty surprises tend to read them.

Why would you agree to follow a set of rules you didn't even read? That's just asking for trouble.

Widespread ignorance is hardly a good reason to choose to be ignorant.

How exactly do you know that, if you didn't read it?

Maybe you agreed to give them your firstborn son. How would you know? You wouldn't. Till they showed up and took him, and you sat there baffled.

Obviously, that's unlikely, but you could be signing away your rights to all sorts of things, without so much as a glance at them as they go. This site is happy and fun, but not all of them are. Some might ask you to let them install spyware and sell your email... and you happily agree. Companies KNOW people are too lazy to protect their own rights, and routinely put things in the fine print that people would never purposely agree to.

If that's how you're planning to live your life, good luck to you.

Anyone under 13 years old is not allowed by law to go on www.nonoba.com because it has a chat.
The reason anyone below 13 is not allowed to go in a chat room is for their own safety. From limiting the use of nonoba from anyone below 13 is simply to protect them from the idiots that lurk teh internets.

reading is fundamental
- On March 22, 2007, U.S. District Judge Lowell A. Reed, Jr. once again struck down the Child Online Protection Act
- On July 22, 2008, The 3rd U.S. Circurt Court of Appeals upheld the 2007 decision.

also "Material harmful to minors" was defined as material that by "contemporary community standards" was judged to appeal to the "prurient interest" and that showed sexual acts or nudity (including female breasts).

i think nonoba falls outside of harmful to minors by a long way.

This is argument is so pointless...
All underaged members of Nonoba are going to turn 13 eventually and according to claytontheman's first comment, most underaged users are 9-12 years of age. Therefore, those users are going to turn 13 in a maximum of 4 years.
Nonoba shouldn't even have an age limit anyway.I mean, what's the the point of having one?!Thats just excluding children and a another point,Nonoba has many games and by the age 13,you wouldn't be really interested in playing games anymore unless it is suited to the player's age or the the player is an immature idiot.Children love to play games, don't they? Well then why prevent them from having fun?!

Posted 4 weeks ago
etmers avenger said

Well, I think Nonoba.com has such law because some other users might be so rude they[the underaged] might do that too.

Posted 3 weeks ago
Bauer22 said

Nonoba has the law to cover their own asses. If some kid gets kidnapped because he/she gives out his address on here and there is no age limit then Nonoba could be facing a nice lawsuit.

Posted 3 weeks ago
lollygiirl said

I think it should be 11+ but you'd have to prove that you would be able to stay in control, if something 'bad' happens.
Oh, and no fake pictures from google. That's almost worse than immature 13- kids..

Sorry, off-topic >_>

I agree with thy Nerd, preventing little kids from having fun is like.. Doing something good, then say it was an accident and it really was ment to hurt, not help. (Bad comparison, but the only one i could come up with).

Posted 4 weeks ago
the internet said

11 or 13, it's a basic arbitrary demarkation and cut off point. more than being about protecting or preventing kids it's about protecting nonoba from lawsuits. the onus falls on parents to both observe their children and teach them both appropriate places to go, as well as how to handle 'adult' situations and language.

but in a situation where there are plenty of parents/guardians who would obfuscate their own responsibility by blaming a third party for a fourth parties actions and their own failings, it becomes necessary to preemptively guard against their frivolity. this doesn't even take into account the liability for say, a school or public place allowing access to the internet, and then being forced to blame nonoba to protect themselves from those same potential problems. there you now have 5 parties to a problematic incident.

tl;dr it isn't about preventing kids from having fun, it's about preventing nonoba from getting in legal trouble.

Posted 4 weeks ago
Henrik said

If we had been based in the US, we would have been required by law to make sure that no users under the age of 13 were allowed on this service. Luckily we're not based there, so we're not under any legal obligation to enforce this.

That said, there is an age limit in the ToS, and we're still debating if we should enforce that more strictly or not.

I say we have anyone on or joining nonoba that is aged 9-12 take a test and prove they are repsonsible enough to not give out any personal information. That way the fun, nice, and mature pre-teens can stay on Nonoba. Then the other people (Teens) don't have to worry about being annoyed or anything. I would actually enjoy taking the test, it would be fun seeing if i'm mature. Please consider this idea and tell all the admins! Thanks! ~Claytontheman~

Its Bauer Time!

One, if not the only reason the 13+ rule is up in the ToS is in the case that , lets say a 10 year old get's kidnapped because they gave out info on here, Nonoba can not be held account because they have the 13+ rule. In the USA atleast that is the legal age of reason in which the court thinks a child knows right or wrong, again making sure Nonoba doesnt get sued by some misfit parent. It's not like they woke up on morning and said "Hey, we're gonna tell all the 12- kids to **** off."

Well back on topic. I don't really care if they enforce the rule or not since all it takes is lying to pass that rule. Yeah sure alot of the 12 and below crowd are immature and act stupid on here but there are some 13+ people that do the same. With ANY online community there will always be bad apples the spoil the bunch.

Remember, /ignore Username (/Ignore "Username" for people with spaces in ther UN) is a great feature that alot of people don't use. If you don't want to hear someone ignore them. It's like their not even there.

So in conclusion, remember, only you can prevent forest fires.

No Im not. Im not saying any kid will get kidnapped. Most molester stay on MySpace but if that day ever comes Nonoba's not getting sued because of them few words.

Also because of your attempt to outsmart me I hope they delete all the kids accounts. Yours first.

Is it possible to make a test to determine whether the person that wants to register has enough knowledge about net safety?

If it is possible,I would like to make a suggestion:make many questions and randomdomly pick out some.Would we be able to make enough questions though?
