well i love this kind of game, and i like the idea of having particular tasks you must complete in each level, but the controls are unnecessarily difficult ;_;

Admittedly I'm used to them, as the designer, but I don't think the controls are difficult at all. The game is difficult, but the controls are easy. If you want to go left on the screen, just push the left-arrow button. Could it be easier?
Almost all the fun and depth of the game is down to the slow acceleration and the bouyancy restriction. The other fish have just the same restrictions, so it isn't unfair. There is a bit of randomness involved, but over the many lives you can earn that averages out.
The skill comes from predicting the other fish and behaving appropriately, perhaps seconds in advance. It's a bit like missile command - if your anti-missile missiles were instantaneous it would be a totally different game (and not for the better).
If you find it awkward at first, please bear in mind that it's like that for a reason.
So please, do give it a good try. I think the gameplay of some of the later levels hits an absolute sweet spot.

Read the comments first and thought it would be horrendous, but it was actually quite fun. Only got to level 6, but the protecting babies were the most difficult levels in my opinion. One thing to maybe improve on is that they all seemed to gravitate towards the corner and get stuck.

Dude, calm down.
Is there some sort of issue with the game on your computer? I mean, if you push and hold the left arrow does the red fish accelerate to the right or something? You could give me some useful feedback on the problem.
If not, well... it's a challenging game; a pity you are too unskilled at gaming to play.

ok, lv4 and lv8 and lv9 SUCKS. It is programmed the way some times you've a 100% chance to die. It sucks, impossible to reach the end levels if u MUST die there cause its sucky programmed.

Its true, on very rare occasions you can't win. Most of the time you just don't see what to do in time though. In any case, thats one of the reasons I give away so many extra lives - so the luck can average out.
I don't know why you didn't get those achievements, probably some sort of internet glitch on your connection - because they all worked first time here. There's not really much I can do about that - whether it works or not is really down to the API. Well, if it flagged an error I could make it try again I suppose... but I wasn't aware it was necessary (I don't know of anyone else doing that). Did you get a message at the top of the screen when you completed those levels? What did it say?

Well, have a look at what happens if I increase the acceleration four-fold; I call it "Big Fish, Chipped":

Personally I think it saps all the gameplay variety from the game. And the levels are terribly unbalanced, because I haven't changed them at all.
It's hosted on Kongregate, but if enough of you ask me nicely I'll set it up on Nonoba. But a lot of the people on Kong who bitterly complained before changed their mind when they saw this. (Sample quote: "...it’s an effective way of proveing your point...". Really, not every game needs to be a mouse-avoider.

I think the original controls could be tweaked a bit ( even though for me they are ok ) but nowhere as far as that version. As it indeed saps all the fun and challenge.

Some useful tips:
Keep swimming down and in one direction (right/left) the fish will accelerate and with a little luck you're eating all the fish and outgrow the bigger ones.
When protecting your babies remember that smaller fish are afraid of you. If you keep floating steadily at certain points they will not be able to get past to the fish. Be careful for bigger fish though... just hope the timer runs out before your babies are eaten if the bigger fish are after you.
It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

I believe that any missing achievements are due to issues with the Nonoba servers, or your connection. I honestly didn't put in any code to intermittently deny achievements - why would I do that? I spent ages retrofitting them in!
So I'm sorry, but I can't help with missed achievements - what you need to do is bug the Nonoba guyes about this issue.
If you get stuck in level 3, then to be blunt it is you who suck - at this game, anyway. It is hard - it's meant to be challenging. It's not really a casual game - to be honest it's rather hardcore. The controls..arn't that difficult though, you just need to accept the physics. You could try reading the walkthrough, which has some useful hints and tips.

Catty, you seem to have the first 4 achievements. Could you have run out of lives on level 8,9 or 10 and clicked the continue button? You won't get any achievements after doing that.

I just wish someone would suggest how I could make the controls better. I mean, pressing a direction button accelerates you in that direction on the screen. I could change it so that pressing left made you rotate left - but that wouldn't make it easier; quite the reverse in fact.
I could make the fish accelerate faster - oh hang on, I already did, with "Big Fish, Chipped". People then complained that the fish moved like missiles rather than fish.
Or I could rip out all the physics and have a mouse-avoider. But that's not what I set out to make.

If you think it doesn't, you probably haven't spent a month tweaking it and trying out many possibilities to find what works and what doesn't. I have.

Did you run out of lives and click the continue button? If so, that's the problem. If not, it's some problem with the Nonoba servers, or your connection to them. Many people have gained all these achievements now, so it isn't that they don't work.

I can see who has achievements, in pages of 20. Here is a list of totals:
Fish for Supper (complete level 2) 140 pages (of 20 per page)
Be a good Mother (complete level 3) 63 pages
No lunch for you! (complete level 4) 39 pages
All you can eat (complete level 7) 29 pages
Be a very good Mother (complete level 10) 7 pages - 8 on the last page so 6*20+8=128 people got to this stage.
Floating circus (complete the game; there are 12 levels) 6 pages - 5 on the last page so 20*5+5=105 people have completed the game at least once.
I believe that this demonstrates conclusively that the achievements are all working.
As I've said before, if you run out of lives then click the continue button you won't get any further achievements in that game. That you don't get any notice of this fact except in the instructions is perhaps unfortunate. But that's because it wasn't possible to do so - I retrofitted the Nonoba achievements to a game file which doesn't pass out that information (that's another story).
So please, let that be an end to it - if you used up all your lives, that's your problem. If not, you need to pester Nonoba, not me.
